Traditionally, the tail end of the year falls very quiet for removals companies and estate agents alike, with barely a mouse house stirring, but some people will be surprised to hear that things really start to heat up at Christmas and into the New Year. There are also a surprisingly large number of people in need of last minute removal companies late into December.
Property portals report a massive spike in visitor numbers on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s day when people thinking of moving early in 2017 have much needed on their hands – and new gifts like laptops, phones and tablets with which to search online.
The most popular property search portal, Rightmove, reported a 21 per cent increase in visits to its site during the first working week of January 2016 compared the previous January. Page views on both Christmas Day and Boxing Day were up 22 per cent on 2014. On Boxing Day there were almost 31 million page views on the site, rising to 44 million on December 30.
